You will be introduced
to all the aspects needed to start you on a journey of discovery in the
outdoor world.
This course assists with the selection and purchase of clothing and equipment
and teaches basic camp craft to help keep you as comfortable as possible
in a harsh environment.
There are many skills needed to negotiate our hills at any time of the year.
None is more important than navigation. In this age of technology the GPS
is often relied on for safe travel but this piece of kit cannot replace
the need for using a map and compass competently.
Learn how to understand the information a map has to offer and relate it to
what you see on the ground. Use your compass for direction to ensure you always
know where you are. Basic skills that could save you from an embarrassing encounter with
the
"Where am I” monster.
Mountain leadership skills such as river crossings and security on steep
ground are also covered.
