The transition from summer hill days to winter can
seem daunting.
This introduction to winter mountaineering includes snowcraft skills such
as the selection and use of the appropriate ice axe through self arrest, self
belaying and the ancient art of step cutting.
There are a number of different crampons on the market, each having its own
function. The selection of a pair is fundamental in moving safely in winter
conditions. You will be taught the techniques required on different slope
angles and snow packs to make your day enjoyable and less hazardous.
Avalanche awareness and knowledge of the different snow packs are an essential
skill when travelling in the British mountains during the winter months to
ensure the safety of yourself and others. The types of avalanches, safe
travel tips and snow shelters are all covered on this comprehensive course.
